Abstract
We apply standard automatic engineering approaches to investigate the problem of synchronization in higher-dimensional possibly hyper-chaotic systems. The concept of observability and construction of an observer for a chaotic system offers a general framework for proving synchronization and building synchronized systems applicable to data transmission on a chaotic carrier. Furthermore the concepts of identifiability offer some insight into transmission security in terms of possibilities of finding coding system parameters on the basis of measured transmitted signal
