Abstract :
A planar ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antenna with an U-shaped slot is etched in the radiating patch for the 5.2/5.8 GHz band-notched function is presented. The proposed antenna has an elliptical radiating patch with a U-shaped slot is removed from the patch. The structure provides a wide fractional bandwidth of more then 115 percent (2.76-17.68 GHz) except in the frequency band range of 5.2 GHz to 5.8 GHz, which is the operating frequency range of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). A 50-ohm microstrip-line is used to feed the antenna. The proposed antenna is simple and compact in size providing broadband impedance matching, consistent radiation pattern appropriate gain characteristics within the UWB frequency range.
