Abstract
Summary form only given. The PARIS network was designed as a single complete system. In particular, rather than being designed separately, the networking architecture and nodal hardware were tailored to work efficiently with each other. The consequence of this system design approach is a high speed packet switching node that can satisfy the throughput and delay requirements and is simple enough to be implemented readily with off-the-shelf components. PARIS is an acronym for Packetized Automatic Routing Integrated System. The PARIS network architecture can be decomposed into two major parts: network transport and network control,
