    This paper has investigated the relationship between openness and economic growth of countries undergoing transition. In contrast to previous findings, we have found that openness which is believed to have positive impact on economic growth is negatively related to those of transition countries. This result implies that opening up a country is not enough for economic growth in transition countries.
