Abstract :
This paper presents a two-staged tabu search for determining the optimal allocation of FACTS devices in distribution systems. As wind distributed power units are installed in distribution systems, it is afraid that they cause the reverse flow that runs through from the end node to the substation for an interval. That brings about the voltage variations due to the random-like output of wind distributed power units. To suppress them, this paper considers to introduce distribution FACTS (D-FACTS) into distribution systems. Under uncertain wind power generation, the location and the output variable of D-FACTS are determined by the Monte-Carlo simulation. As an optimization technique, two-staged tabu search is proposed to determine them. It consists of two stages, i.e., Stage 1 of optimizing the location and Stage 2 of optimizing the output. The voltage deviations before and after D-FACTS installations are evaluated in a probabilistic way. The proposed method is applied to a sample system.
