Abstract :
Energy is a critical commodity for growth and development in the developing world. South Africa is no exception and requires huge amounts of cheap energy to sustain growth. This paper reports on the current need for energy benchmarking in South African Food and Beverage sector and highlights the need for research in this area. From this initial assessment, it is evidently clear that very little information and research is done in this sector within South Africa and practical application of such studies would contribute immensely to reducing carbon intensity within the Food and Beverage Sector.
