Abstract :
This paper describes the system analysis method used by STATCOM and the verification of that method through comparison with the actual field record acquired over a ten-years period of operation. First, the system configuration of the Inuyama STATCOM installed in 1991 and its ten-years operation record are described. Second, modeling of STATCOM for an EMTP type study is described. Third, simulations of a power system using the Inuyama STATCOM under various fault conditions are executed. The results are compared to the record of actual system faults and are shown to be in good agreement with them. The simulation method is useful for the planning of power system development, as well as for the design of future STATCOM systems.
