Abstract :
This paper reports several design improvements accomplished in left-handed waveguide metamaterial structures. In order to compensate for low transmission levels previously reported on this type of technology, the use of a direct coaxial excitation, together with interleaved inductive windows placed within an evanescent waveguide, has been successfully proposed. Making use of these novel frequency selective structures, very compact devices can be synthesized so as to take advantage of their negative refractive index
