Abstract :
The known handoff channel allocation schemes in mobile communication, operating with fixed guard channels, can lead to failure in utilizing the limited channels such as wasting or lacking the number of guard channels, since the handoff traffic which depends on the mobility of users is not always stationary. Furthermore this phenomenon will be more aggravated in personal communications services (PCS) having a high handoff rate due to many subscribers. In this paper, we use a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to generate proper guard channels according to fluctuating handoff traffic patterns so as not to waste or not to lack the valuable resources. Also we introduce the fuzzy adaptive guard channel with handoff queueing scheme (FA GCHQS) which combines FLC with previous guard channel plus a queueing priority scheme (GCHQS). For the performance evaluation we regard the originating call blocking probability, handoff forced termination probability, and grade of service (GoS) of the network as the system performance criteria
