            Abstract :
In this paper a new concept for multi-mode resonators is presented, which is based on combined TE- and TM-mode operation in dielectric rods. By proper arrangement of dielectric rods in branch configuration, new fundamental eigenmode resonances could be shown to be present. In a planar realization triple and quadruple mode resonances are obtained. With a non-planar, three dimensional arrangement of the rods sextuple mode operation is possible. By symmetry considerations, the field patterns of the first 12 fundamental modes - which are guided along the dielectric rods - are determined. Mode charts are presented, which are based on finite elements eigenmode calculations of the threefold symmetric resonator structure.
