Abstract
The first part of the presentation is a brief survey of unsupervised neural network models and the use of self-organizing maps in the real-time monitoring of power transformers. The second part discusses the application of genetic algorithms in a complex optimisation problem: the allocation and parameters of FACTS devices in a power transmission system.
