We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel surveillance scheme for an optically amplified transmission system which allows simultaneous in-service fiber fault identification and optical amplifiers´ status monitoring, without any dedicated light source as in conventional optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) technique
