Abstract :
In this work we analytically show that in the propagation regime with a low average normal dispersion the interplay between Kerr effect and chromatic dispersion can reduce the degradation due to the ASE noise in NRZ optical systems. Simulations show how this effect is also more evident in links encompassing semiconductor optical amplifiers, where the ASE noise contribution is much more relevant with respect to links with erbium amplifiers
