Abstract :
Highly reliable and low-cost plastic laser modules are demonstrated for the first time. They employ hybrid integration of spot-size converter integrated laser diodes on a planar lightwave circuit platform. The lasers lase at 150°C and operate stably for 2000 hours at 85°C and 10mW. The modules show no degradation under a storage test for over 5000 hours in an 85°C and 85%RH atmosphere and no failure for over 2000 cycles under temperature variation (-40°C/85°C)
