Abstract :
In the present paper, an electromagnetic field simulator across the entire UWB range is used to perform analytical evaluation of the structural parameters governing the characteristics of omnidirectional UWB half slot antennas. As a result, it was found that the bandwidth becomes maximum at certain dimensions of the slot and certain positions for the feed point, as well as that the obtained characteristics are closest to being omnidirectional in the E and the H plane. Thus, the adoption of these evaluation procedures is proposed for the design of the antenna presented in this paper. It was also found that the bandwidth exhibits a strong dependence on the slot width, and that the slot length exerts strong influence on the emission directionality. In addition, once the slot width and the slot length are chosen, the position of the feed point is unequivocally determined through analysis. Finally, the effectiveness of the present design method is confirmed through experiments.
