Abstract
The paper presents the motivations for the implementation of a computerized system operating in the field of medical decision, aimed at the reduction of the medical errors and the improvement of health status of the pregnant women and newborn babies. The proposed system is going to be available as an Internet accessible platform that will monitor the health status of the pregnant women during the perinatal period. The system will record and analyze the medical data and the key risk factors (such as social, infectious, genetic and environmental) which can occur during the this stage of the pregnancy and can severely affect the child´s and/or the pregnant woman´s health. The system will be able to alert the attending physician about potential risk situations for the child´s or for the pregnant woman´s health, as well as indicate an appropriate course of treatment. Besides the medical decision-making support system, the platform will also provide a statistical tool for various perinatal and pregnancy indicators which will be useful for both doctors and health authorities.
