Abstract :
In the telecommunication application there is a tendency to reduce the backup times from mainly 3 to 8 hours down to 30 minutes to 1 hour. To fulfil the requirement for long lasting batteries in this application field the battery must be at least a ten years system with the ability to supply high currents on short term discharges. The combination of service life >10 years and high rate discharge, 50% of C10 at the one hour rate, requires a new design of a telecommunication battery. The system described in this paper fulfils the above mentioned requirements and also applies construction features and manufacturing experiences which are well approved in the telecommunication application
