Abstract :
This paper examines part of the interface between intelligent medical systems and statistics, with an overview of the most promising areas for development. From the biostatistics viewpoint, few intelligent systems have been subject to rigorous trials. The implementation of rigorous testing, analogous to pharmaceutical clinical trials, is suggested. By contrast, neural networks look promising as statistical tools
