Between 1990 and 1992 the Magellan spacecraft returned synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of 98% of the surface of the planet Venus, which revealed the presence of a large number (about 106) of small volcanoes. The authors discuss counting of the volcanoes by computer and humans. A theoretical study is given
