  • Abstract
Like many technologies, the field of magnetics has made great advances. Magnetic systems have been called upon to reach higher fields with the advent of new materials and the use of magnets in new applications. Everywhere we look there are examples of magnets being used. To make the most of magnets in these various applications, it is important to understand the means used to magnetize and measure permanent magnet materials. There are four types of systems used to magnetize permanent magnet material. The first is a permanent magnet used to magnetize other magnet materials of lower He values. The second is a DC magnetizer. Third is the half cycle magnetizer and the fourth type magnetizer is the capacitor discharge, which is the most common because it is the most versatile. These systems are briefly described as are four approaches to demagnetisation. The measurement of magnetic fields is also discussed
