Abstract :
This paper describes viscosity studies on several transformer oils and oil substitutes such as silicone fluid. Both kinematic and dynamic viscosities were measured. The temperature range studied included -40°C to +20°C. Viscosity-temperature plots indicated a linear correlation. At very low shear rates, the dynamic viscosity behavior was close to that of the kinematic viscosity. This data is useful in selecting oils for cold climate applications
