Abstract :
In the last few years the requirements for reduction of costs and thereby of the number of components and protection circuits in DC/DC-converters, as part of the overall power supply systems, have increased significantly. The large number of new circuit topologies with optimized circuit parameters has been proposed and in some cases even produced. All this has increased the interest for more accurate simulation techniques that can handle signals which are not always linearized and small enough to allow the straightforward application of the existing simulation models like the commonly used state-space averaged approach. In the present paper we review the most important results of the exact analytic treatment of the buck-boost DC/DC-converter and perform an analytical study of the power factor of the buck-boost DC/DC-converter. We then investigate the limit with no dissipation sources, other than the load resistor, as well as the limit of linearized state variables being in agreement with the well-known results obtained using the state-space averaged approach
