Abstract
A novel suboptimal detection method employing multi-carrier modulation (MCM) and joint maximum-likelihood sequence detection (MLSD) for channels with ISI and AWGN is proposed. The computational complexity order increases only linearly as the span of the ISI increases, and the crest factor and the sensitivity to frequency synchronization are much lower than that of the conventional MCM systems. As the cost of these improves, the error performance degrades moderately as compared with that of the MLSD method of the corresponding single carrier modulation system.
