Abstract :
Instead of classical lamps, energy efficient luminaries can be used for lighting and saves energy applied of about 15-20%. Thus replacing classical lamps by CFL´s leads to efficient energy usage for street lighting. But changing every lamp with CFL´s leads to high capital investment and the classical lamps needs to be disposed. In this paper, voltage applied is reduced using Sine Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) in Matrix converters. This solution focuses on reducing energy used for street lighting and cost effective utilisation without replacing conventional lamps with efficient voltage control reduces maintenance costs and reducing harmonics produced during switching matrix converter components.
