Abstract :
A 77-GHz synthesizer consisting of a phase locked loop (PLL) and a direct digital synthesizer (DDS) optimised for the application in frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radars is presented. Through extensive noise shaping, the DDS uses a very small lookup table for storage of the sine function values and requires a digital-analog converter (DAC) with only 6 bit resolution. The design achieves high clock rates via the use of parallelisation
