Abstract :
This paper discusses the guidelines used in designing coil forms for surface mount technology (SMT) applications. Although many types of coils could be designed for SMT, most of the ideas presented have been used in the design of transformers. Coil form and terminal materials (phenolic, liquid crystal polymer), SMT terminal designs, basic coil form designs and specifications are presented to give the design engineer a solid foundation in coil design
