Abstract :
In AC power system reactive power is one of the major concerns which affect the quality of power. So the compensation of reactive power is essential to improve the power quality. Using various FACTS controllers, the reactive power compensation will be done. In this proposed work the reactive power compensation was done by using static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). A STATCOM is one of the fundamental flexible ac transmission system devices, which can be used for voltage regulation and dynamic voltage control. Many control strategies are available for controlling the behavior of the STATCOM. In this work d-q control based control strategy is used. Using this control strategy the reference voltage and current signals are generated. These reference signals are used to generate pulses for the STATCOM. The generated pulses will dynamically varies depending on the load variation.
