Abstract
This paper proposes a new method which analyzing the relationship between the bit-precision of an analog to digital converter (ADC) and the bit error rate (BER) performance in a broadband QAM demodulator. Through analyzing the quantization effect of the ADC on the SNR in the slicer, we get an analytical expression between ADC bit precision and SNR loss. The results of computer simulation match the theoretic analysis fairly well.
