Abstract :
The plasma control system for TdeV (Tokamak de Varennes) has been designed around a digital programmable high-speed controller. The characteristics of the comprehensive operator interface and its implementation are discussed. The performance, capability, and flexibility of the system are illustrated with reference to several exacting examples of plasma control. Ramp-up and ramp-down of the plasma current in a divertor configuration at rates much faster than the characteristic L/R rate are described, involving the rapid, two-level vertical-field system of TdeV
