Abstract :
The recent trend around the world is marching towards deregulating power systems. In deregulated electricity market, the power marketers share a common transmission network for transferring power from generating station to distribution station. All the market participants in the open access environment expect to maximize their profit so they try to obtain the electrical energy from the cheapest sources which lead to congestion in the transmission network and affect the system security and reliability. It is necessary to ensure the secure operating condition of the power system in the transmission side by transmission providers. In order to transmit secure reliable and economic supply of electric power, long distance bulk power transmission is essential. But power transfer capability of power system is limited due to constrained like thermal limits, voltage limit and stability limit. To operate power system safely and gain the advantage of bulk power transfer, Assessment of Available transfer capability (ATC) is required. In this paper, ATC is estimated for normal operating condition, various uncertainty conditions like contingency cases involving line and generator outages, various power transactions and dynamically varying loading conditions for a specific time intervals. Detailed Simulation study is performed on IEEE 30 bus reliability test system.
