Materials with periodically-patterned nonlinear susceptibilities offer qualitative improved performance in nonlinear frequency conversion devices. Methods for patterning ferroelectric materials, generation of UV, visible and tunable IR radiation, ultrafast quasi phase matched (QPM) nonlinear optics are discussed
