Abstract
This paper presents the development of a mechanism to support communication in clusters of computers, focused in exploring this hardware for high performance processing. The mechanism is based on the active messages model and was developed to be introduced as communication support to a high performance programming environment. Its implementation is performed in the application level, using multithreading techniques. An application for biological sequences alignment using the dynamic programming method was implemented to evaluate the communication library developed. Finally, are presented performance results and the use of the support developed in the construction of Anahy, an environment for high performance processing in clusters.
