Abstract :
Non-linear EEG analysis provides a possibility for studying the dynamical changes in cortical networks related to mental activity. In the paper, the theory of bursts of 40 Hz EEG was used to determined the segments of EEG data to calculate the correlation dimension(D2). The D2 was studied for 30 normal subjects under four conditions:(1) passive eyes closed; (2) mental arithmetic with eyes closed; (3) passive eyes open; (4) mental reasoning with eyes open. D2 increased clearly during mental arithmetic with eyes closed and was significantly larger in left brain than the right in the condition of the mental reasoning with eyes open. We found different brain areas tended to demonstrate the same proceeding of the mental activity and the way we provided was feasible. However, it should develop with more experiments.
