Abstract :
The modern information society is undergoing rapid development all over the world, although at different levels and at different pace. Telecommunications becomes an increasingly integrated part of societies, and advanced and reliable telecommunications systems are therefore crucial. Diversified services are developed to satisfy the ever-increasing demands for individual solutions, and terminal equipment will evolve in terms of functionality, miniaturisation and decreasing power consumption. Mobility, bandwidth, reliability and ease of use become key requirements. To support all this, telecommunications networks will have to offer still more differentiated access modes, based on a multitude of technologies
