Abstract
Based on the relational database system INGRES running under UNIX, a multi-user departmental information system (DIS) has been developed. It gives the physician fast access to patient history and examination results (e.g. echocardiography, cardiac catheterization). The system´s basic concepts are: online input of all patient results at the local worksite, patient based structure and a graphical user interface. The DIS has been used in clinical routine for 2 years. The database contains more than 10,000 patients and is constantly being extended to cover all worksites of the department. We will outline the requirements to the system, present concepts and features and discuss experiences
