Abstract :
This paper discusses three general classes of remote amplification: Raman amplification as well as remotely pumped erbium-doped fiber post- and pre-amplifiers. Raman pre-amplification by itself is a cost-effective means of increasing the power budget of new or already installed systems by up to approximately 7 dB in a preamplifier configuration
