Abstract :
Coding techniques for an on-off-keyed optical communication channel are discussed. The information theoretic limits of the photon channel with energy- and power-constrained optical on-off signaling are investigated. Constant-weight codes and even-weight codes are studied. A known result on the limiting behavior of Z-channels is shown to have an important bearing on the optimal performance of codes on the optical on-off channel
