Abstract :
The physical presence of large quantities of waste, removal expenses, focus of interested parties on the environment and Tele Danmark´s signing of the ETNO charter made the establishment of a waste management system both desirable and necessary. The Executive Committee´s adoption of Tele Danmark´s environmental policy in 1997, and the publication of the first environmental report and Tele Danmark´s vision of the same year, with focus on society and the environment, in 1998 have furthered the need for environmental management. The environmental policy attaches importance to preventive measures as the environmental impact is considered during procurement, the development of new products and services and during selling. However, as we are not in a position to prevent all environmental problems from arising, another target is to set up a system for the withdrawal and treatment of worn-out telecom equipment, i.e. a waste management system. According to its tradition and in view of the most recent requirements, Tele Danmark began examining the environmental impact of all processes. The paper discusses the environmental policy and environmental program at Tele Danmark, the structure of environmental organisation, and waste management
