Abstract
The two 18.75 MVA generators for the Texas Experimental Tokamak (TEXT) upgrade will require coordinated protection and excitation systems. The protection system for each generator will consist of protective relays, a vibration monitor, a temperature monitor, a high-speed breaker, and a braking resistor assembly. For the field excitations, a DC chopper circuit will be added to the original rotating exciter to improve excitation and de-excitation response time. The authors describe the protection and excitation systems and their interdependence in detail
