Abstract :
A novel printed multi-band planar monopole antenna for mobile handsets is proposed and analyzed by the finite difference time domain method (FDTD). The radiating patch of the proposed antenna is designed jointly with the shape of ground plane. The proposed antenna with 36 mm in height and 50 mm in width was fabricated and tested, and its operating bandwidth defined by voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2.5 covers the global system for mobile communication (GSM, 890-960 MHz), global positioning system (GPS, 1575.42 MHz), digital communication system (DCS, 1710-1880 MHz), and personal communication system (PCS, 1850-1990 MHz). Design details and experimental results are also presented and discussed.
