Abstract :
An expert system to configure and diagnose a TNET multidrop network is presented. The TNET expert system (TEXSYS) was developed to ease the burden of device configuration and problem determination. It is written in the C programming language on an IBM personal computer, PS/2 model 80. A prototype development subsystem gives the user a tool to build and design the network. A configuration subsystem automatically initializes each node to the desired communication parameters. A diagnostic subsystem performs instream diagnostics while interacting with a running application program. All of these subsystems are merged together to form a single working expert system that is ready to lend assistance to the user. An introduction to TNET, the equipment used, the configuration, and the expert system implementation are given
