Abstract :
A brief description of the TFTR (Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor) motor generator (MG) system and its operational history since 1981 is presented. Included are various problems encountered during this period such as initial balancing problems with the rotor, drive motor welding cracks, thrust bearing surface problems, generator pole insulation migration, and lube oil problems. Also described is the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory effort to identify and explore operating parameters beyond the specified ratings
