Abstract :
Systematic integration of ECG, RIsk and Chest pain (ERIC) analysis and evaluation of the ST segment of single and serial ECG recordings can help recognize early the main forms of acute myocardial ischemia and allow doctors to select candidates for thrombolysis, emergency angioplasty or by-pass surgery. The integration of these different sources of knowledge is still difficult to achieve in emergency situations such as during ambulance transportation. To fill this gap a portable cardiological station equipped with computerized diagnostic support has been designed for emergency cars, both to help on-site decision-making and to establish a continuous link between the ambulance and the cardiology department. The use of such a system inside and outside the hospital will improve the quality of the decision-making process outside the hospital and exploit the main resources in specialized departments, mainly by gaining precious time in a preselected set of patients.
