Abstract
The storage battery is the most important and decisive component in a telecommunication DC UPS system, determining its reliability and availability performance. The deployment of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries into telecommunication networks started the era of unbelievable problems and gradual deterioration of credibility. Battery monitoring and supervision has become a necessity and not just a way to boost reliability and availability. This paper presents the available methods to assess the state-of-health of VRLA batteries and their potentials in practical usage from the viewpoint of field experience
