Quantifying soil respiration (SR) and its components and their sensitivities to environmental factors are an important step for simulating carbon cycle in organic soils. However, there are few studies on the dynamic processes and biotic environmental controlling factors of these components in forest ecosystems, especially in soil respiration of forest ecosystem in China. In this study, we used validated Integrated Biosphere Simulator (IBIS) to simulate soil respiration and its components for six major temperature forest ecosystems in northeastern China, and the objectives of the current study were to: 1) determine the factors causing temporal variations on SR in these six forest ecosystems, 2) quantify annual CO2 effluxes from different SR components and their relative contributions to the total SR.
