Abstract :
The estimation of the height of a target flying at low altitude above the sea is linked to various intrinsic parameters of the medium of propagation. The actual aspect of the sea surface profile can be taken into account with the aid of the finite difference method. This makes it possible to analyse in more detail the influence which the surface can have on the propagation of electromagnetic waves. It is proposed to correct the ray-tracing method so as to be able to calculate rapidly the values of field in the presence of a rough sea. This formulation could improve the tracking of radar targets flying at low altitude
