Abstract :
By applying the Synthetic Storm Technique to the large collection of rain rate time series measured at Spino dpsilaAdda, in 8 years of continuous observation (1993-2000), we have simulated 1120 time series of simultaneous attenuation and phase delay due to rain in a 20deg slant path at 8.4 and 32 GHz. The relationship between phase delay and attenuation exceeded with the same probability is given by a power law, whose exponent is 0.73, likely to be independent of frequency. The results are useful for satellite and deep space tracking.
