Abstract :
This work proposes a novel rule-base approach for locating a mobile terminal in a cellular wireless network. This scheme significantly outperforms GSM-adopted blanket paging scheme. When compared with the popular shortest distance first (SDF) scheme, results are again encouraging. The scheme has the potential for use in the next generation wireless networks, irrespective of any standard (such as GSM, UMTS) and also for heterogeneous interconnected networks, with only minor changes to conform to the standard.
