Abstract
This paper presents a novel algorithm for synthesizing arbitrary footprint for planar array. Simulated annealing is used to optimize the footprint pattern. Since the far field pattern of an antenna aperture can be estimated from the 2-dimension Fourier transform of the aperture distribution in rectangular array, synthesizing process proceeds in the frequency domain. In many applications, the word length is limited for various reasons. Main reasons are the computational complexity and the system limitation. In this paper, finite word length control is considered for the practical considerations.
