Abstract :
The paper is mainly concerned with the effectiveness of information technology in the nation-wide college English teaching reform launched by China´s Administration of Education in 2004. First, net-based computer assisted language learning and teaching (N-BCALL) models, teaching environment and teaching resources were described. Secondly, the nationwide English teaching reform and the new teaching pattern was briefly introduced. Then a contrastive study between N-BCALL class and non-CALL class at Northwest Polytechnical University, one of the 188 demonstration universities in the reform was conducted by quantitative study. The result shows that net-based English teaching and learning, as a new teaching and learning mode, is superior to the traditional one in many ways.
